Life Skills
with Jess
Do you have the practical skills to ace life?
There are many skills and pieces of practical knowledge that our education system doesn’t teach us, yet plenty of this know-how would make our lives better.
Think: knowing where to find your KiwiSaver, how Government works, how to build, grow, and fix things around the home, bare bones human survival! We can think about this know-how as tools to support our everyday lives.
Do you have this know-how? Want to add to your life skills toolkit?

I’m Jess. I’m an avid learner and connector.
I’m on a mission to up my practical skills and general life know-how, and to share this journey with you via my Youtube Channel.
I hope you can add to your own life skills toolkit by following along!

Originally from a sheep farm in Southland, I was lucky to grow up with exposure to practical skills and worldly opportunities. Since graduating I’ve worked in finance, economic development, and policy in the private sector and local and central government. This has given me a lot of know-how on how things work in Aotearoa New Zealand.
I’ve also gained many practical skills – with jobs in shearing sheds, in supermarkets, hospitality, and as a tutor, life guard, and even a roofer tiling roofs!
But there’s still so many more learnings to add.
There’s a lot school doesn’t teach us, and many more things that the ‘school of life’ doesn’t always prep us for either – not unless you go looking for it.
Life skills with Jess is that opportunity for everyday Kiwi’s to add to their know-how. Are you up for following along?
